Children go to Beach

DSN students and LTR had a long but wonderful day yesterday.  We took some of the children and hiked to Bisson Blu. It is a cold moutain pool. The students loved being cooled off. The children thought it was freezing but smiles continued. When we walked back to Jacmel we quickly gathered up the boys and went to the beach. The only word that comes to mind is crazy time! Sponsor Cards and School Uniforms

After church service this morning, we all gathered in the dining hall to receive our cards from sponsors. And write thank yous for the school uniforms. The uniforms are being sewn and will be ready this next week. It was an exciting time. Opening the letters and pictures from each sponsor. Above is Valentina, Tarline and Waydonna. Mountain Climb

The Denver School of Nursing students got up early to the rain stopped and the sun out ready to climb the moutain. We visited Papa's family land. It is a beautiful hike.  The life of those that live outside the city was observed along the way.  A We visited a wonderful mountain pond. Denver School of Nursing Jacmel

The DSN students in Jacmel have been very busy but having a rewarding experience. They have immersed themselves into the Jacmel community. Looking at the area with a Community Health Nursing Prespective. They have taught at La Concorde school toothbrushing. It was well received and they were able to provide each student with a toothbrush. They spent time with fourth year nursing students at Notre Dame School of Nursing. They had a round table discussion, practicum experience in the United States and specialzation in nursing. Chairs

The additional chairs for school were delievered last night. A very large THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the chair for school project!  The chairs are very sturdy says Mama. They will last for a very long time. They are built locally in Jacmel. They are good Haitian chairs. There are three different sizes for the different ages and classrooms. School is going very well. All the children will start to wear their uniforms on Monday. The children at La Concorde will be given theirs on Saturday with cards from their sponsors. SCHOOL IS OPEN!

Arriving at La Concorde this morning was very exciting. The school buildings are done. The seats are filled with 84 students and the Haitian flag was proudly flying. The school opened Monday Sept 15th.  They have classes Kindergarten through 5th grade. There is a teacher for each class. The Kindergarten class is from 8:00 am -11:30 am. The primary school has class from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. AMAZING one year ago today we moved these children into a safe, secure and humane home at La Concorde. Denver School of Nursing and LTR Trip#8

We are here! For the nursing students from Denver this is a long over night, Spirit Airlines infused experience.After arriving in Port Au Prince. We were able to stop in Leogane at the Camejo Hospital. We had a tour by Dr Charles and were able to see the soon to open Birthing Center built by Global Compassion. It is an orgainzation started by a group in Denver Colorado. We had a donatation of supplies collected by the DSN students. Welcome to our new and "improved" web site. I think of this as the rest of the story. There is the work of the present project, in this case La Concorde orphanage and school.
