2019-11-24T15:05:56-06:00November 24th, 2019|ALL BLOGS|

It has been a difficult year for the citizens of Haiti. Since the beginning of 2019 rumblings of unrest have presented. In September 2019 the civil unrest came and stayed. The lack of gasoline prevented both travel for people and goods across the country, and the prices of food increased dramatically.  The protesters blocked roads making life difficult. Schools have been closed and life is at a stand still. Most projects in Haiti have in-country directors from United States, Canada and France. The roll of the in country director is to keep things moving and direct when and [...]

Roots For A Child

2019-04-14T18:30:43-05:00April 3rd, 2019|ROOTS FOR A CHILD|

Almost four years ago I traveled to La Concorde Orphanage for the first time. During my time there I bonded with a little girl named, Gertrude. She was six years old and fairly new to the Orphanage and was often sad. During my few days visiting, it was astonishing to me how close and bonded I felt despite Gertrude not speaking English. I fondly remember a very fun day swimming at the beach, where I finally saw her beautiful smile, complete with a the cutest dimple! After my trip, I knew I wanted to sponsor Gertrude. Over the [...]

Roots Runners

2019-04-05T14:00:20-05:00April 3rd, 2019|ROOTS RUNERS|

My name is Katie Koenecke.  Last October I decided to take on a new challenge and committed to running my first marathon for Love Takes Root.  I had previously ran a half marathon and a few 5Ks, but never thought I could run 26.2 miles! To train, I started running shorter distances and found a running partner that held me accountable and pushed me to run longer distances and keep going when I wanted to quit – this was one of the biggest blessings to my training.  As the miles progressed every week I quickly learned it was [...]

I was a little nervous because I had never met my team members, let alone traveled outside of the country without my family.  When we arrived in Haiti our team gathered [...]

Ted Skidmore began his involvement with LOVE Takes Root as a donor, but his passion for and commitment to the work of LTR grew following his first trip to Haiti. After a 27 year career in marketing, including 21 years at The Walt Disney Company, Ted decided to take a break from corporate entertainment and spent a week visiting La Concorde in Jacmel, Haiti as a LOVE Takes Root volunteer. His trip to Haiti was an experience that inspired Ted to focus on improving the lives of others, and after identifying the need for better quality and quantity nutrition for [...]
