Bread of Love Boulangerie
The Bread Bakery was the brainstorming of the Haitian LOVE Takes Flight committee. The idea was to nourish. The long lasting food insecurity issues with the need to teach business fundamentals combined in the most basic way; bake bread. Bread is enjoyed by the Haitian culture so it serves the Jacmel community. It also provides interactive business teaching to the LOVE Takes Flight candidates. They will rotate through inventory, preparation, point of sale, customer service, marketing and distribution. With hands-on learning!
The LTF candidates helped to clean, paint and prep the building. They made the work uniforms and have been actively learning from Haitian mentors about starting and growing the business.
We have candidates who drive the people mover delivering bread and picking up supplies. Some graduate candidates are also employed at the bakery.
Lesson for all: to bake bread you must be dependable and reliable both qualities will apply to any future business venture.
